Tom Cruise in trouble over Valkyrie
She said: "Tom Cruise should have been more careful. It is obvious that being the head of a company you have to delegate some tasks. There are employees, colleagues or co-producers, to which you assign things to. "Tom Cruise being an actor in the film, it was not his task to be at the set and to check personally whether all the security measures were taken. But according to US law, he can be held legally responsible for the security measures not having been in place." She added: "For the moment we communicated our realistic demand of $11 million. This is going to be the basis of negotiations for now, if the opposite side contacts us and we sit down to talk."

The 2008 Beijing Olympics Conclude With Help From British Stars
The International Olympic Committee, whose selection of Beijing as host back in 2001 was widely questioned, insisted its choice had been vindicated. “Tonight, we come to the end of 16 glorious days which we will cherish forever,” IOC President Jacques Rogge told the capacity crowd of 91,000 at the National Outdoor Stadium, and a global TV audience. “Through these Games, the world learned more about China, and China learned more about the world.” “These were truly exceptional games,” he said, before declaring them formally closed. The head of the Beijing organzing committee, Liu Qi, said the games were “testimony to the fact that the world has rested its trust in China.” He called them “a grand celebration of sport, of peace and friendship.”
China invested more than $40 billion in the games, which it viewed as a chance to show the world its dramatic economic progress. Olympic telecasts achieved record ratings in China and the United States, and the games’ presence online was by far the most extensive ever. Rogge said these Olympics would leave a lasting, positive legacy for China — improved transportation infrastructure, more grass-roots interest in recreational sports, a more aggressive approach to curbing air pollution and other environmental problems. Smog that enveloped the city early in the games gave way to mostly clear skies, easing fears that some endurance events might be hazardous for the athletes.
American rower Jennifer Kaido of West Leyden, N.Y., said the games exceeded her expectations. “We were prepared for smog, pollution, demonstrations, but everything has gone very smoothly,” she said. Rogge acknowledged that China, despite promises of press freedom during the games, continued to block access to numerous politically oriented Web sites, including those related to Tibet and the outlawed spiritual movement Falun Gong. However, he contended that media restrictions were looser during the Olympics than beforehand, “and so we believe the games had a good influence.” Human rights groups disagreed. “The reality is that the Chinese government’s hosting of the games has been a catalyst for abuses, leading to massive forced evictions, a surge in the arrest, detention and harassment of critics, repeated violations of media freedom, and increased political repression,” said Sophie Richardson of Human Rights Watch. “Not a single world leader who attended the games or members of the IOC seized the opportunity to challenge the Chinese government’s behavior in any meaningful way.”
Led by Phelps and Bolt, athletes broke 43 world records and 132 Olympic records during the games. Yet Rogge, who visited every venue, said the most touching moment for him came after the 10-meter air pistol event, when gold medalist Nino Salukvadze of Georgia embraced runner-up Natalia Paderina of Russia even as their two countries’ armies fought back in Georgia. “That kind of sportsmanship is really remarkable,” Rogge said.Michael Phelps Looking Ahead To 2012 London Olympics
Phelps said the changes suggested by coach Bob Bowman could help rejuvenate him mentally and physically after what he described as the most grueling period of his life. “Bob said to me that he’s going to take everything he’s done coaching me and throw it out the door and try something completely different, just to see how it works,” Phelps said. “We’ll try a bunch of new things. If we’re successful, great. If not, we can go back to what we’ve been doing.”
Only a supremely confident athlete would contemplate moving away from a program that has brought a record 14 Olympic gold medals, an unprecedented eight at one games and the unofficial title of history’s greatest swimmer. But “confident” sums up Phelps pretty well. Despite arriving in London late Saturday, Phelps posed good-naturedly with one of his medals through 10 minutes of blinding camera flashes—adopting each of the artificial poses requested of him with an easy manner and enthusiasm. Phelps said he was enjoying his celebrity status, but deflected suggestions that the rock star treatment could distract him from being as dominant in 2012 as he was in 2008. “If you’re having fun, that’s really all that matters,” Phelps said. “You can still do everything and still be successful. You can do anything and everything. One of the biggest things I’ve learned over last four years is that anything’s possible. “I’ve had some pretty lofty dreams in my head. Those dreams and those goals are going to stay until they’re accomplished,” Phelps added. “It’s not going to be easy getting there, there are going to be some bumps in the road here and there, but everyone has bumps in the road and it depends how you get over them.”
Jennie Garth & Shannen Doherty Party With New ‘90210’ Cast At Premiere Party
‘Tropic Thunder’ Reigns Again With $16.1 Million Weekend
weekend’s box-office leader. “There isn’t that divide where there’s a couple of huge movies coming every week,” said DreamWorks spokesman Chip Sullivan. Summer’s biggest hit, “The Dark Knight,” continued its climb up the box-office charts, placing fourth with $10.3 million. The Warner Bros. Batman sequel has taken in $489.2 million on its way to becoming the second film ever to top $500 million, after “Titanic” ($600.8 million). Overall movie revenues of $3.9 billion are slightly ahead of last summer’s record pace. But higher admission prices mean the actual number of tickets sold is down about 3 percent compared to summer 2007, according to box-office tracker Media By Numbers. Still, Hollywood should finish with a new box-office record and a second-straight summer topping the $4 billion mark. “Thank you, `Dark Knight.’ That’s added close to half a billion dollars,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. “One film like `The Dark Knight’ can make a huge difference.” In limited release, Focus Features’ comedy “Hamlet 2” pulled in $435,000. Starring Steve Coogan as a high school drama teacher staging a campy, irreverent musical sequel to Shakespeare’s play, “Hamlet 2” expands into nationwide release Wednesday.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.
1. “Tropic Thunder,” $16.1 million.
2. “The House Bunny,” $15.1 million.
3. “Death Race,” $12.3 million.
4. “The Dark Knight,” $10.3 million.
5. “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” $5.7 million.
6. “Pineapple Express,” $5.6 million.
7. “Mirrors,” $4.9 million.
8. “The Longshots,” $4.304 million.
9. “Mamma Mia!”, $4.303 million.
10. “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” $4.1 million.

Madonna Kicks Off Her ‘Sticky And Sweet’ Tour In The UK
Some had been lining up since Friday to see the four-act show. It carried the usual Madonna fixtures: sequins, fishnets, and bondage-style outfits drawn from the 3,500 items of clothing reportedly whipped together by 36 designers specifically for the “Sticky and Sweet” tour. Promoters promised a “rock-driven danstastic journey” supported by a traveling crew of 250 — including a chiropractor, personal trainer and a masseuse.
The show itself includes eight costume changes, 16 dancers, and $1.85 million worth of Swarovski crystals. It is billed as a musical mishmash of “gangsta pimp,” Romanian folk, rave, and a nod to the blonde material-girl’s roots in the 80s New York City dance scene. Those roots go back three decades to when the aspiring singer reportedly showed up in city with just $35 in her pocket. Despite celebrating her 50th birthday just last week, the world’s top-selling female recording artist is still writhing, shaking and shimmying in the limelight — taking her place at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March.
But controversy plagued the singer earlier this summer with the publication of a gossipy memoir written by her brother Christopher Ciccone, speculation about her relationship with New York Yankee slugger Alex Rodriquez and rumors that her marriage to British filmmaker Guy Ritchie was on the rocks, which she hotly denied. Madonna’s tour was eagerly anticipated in Britain, where the pop superstar — known here as “Madge” — has made her home.
“I can’t wait for it to start,” Gemma Thomas, a 24-year-old fan from Merthyr, Wales, said before the concert. She said Madonna should not retire soon. “I hope it’s not her last tour.” Tabloids clucked approvingly at the more than 600 hours of rehearsal time and the monthslong exercise regime said to have gone into the show, with the Sun saying the singer was in “incredible shape” and crowing: “She’s still got the old Madgic.” However, others wondered at the singer’s carbon footprint, questioning the amount of carbon dioxide pumped out by ferrying Madonna’s wardrobe, makeup, and freezers (for ice to soothe the dancers’ aching feet) across the world.
After Cardiff’s opening concert, “Sticky and Sweet” moves across Europe, hitting London’s Wembley Stadium on Sept. 11 and Paris on Sept. 20. From there, it goes to North America in October before wrapping it up Dec. 18 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is Madonna’s first tour since striking a deal with concert promoter Live Nation Inc. worth an estimated $120 million over 10 years. The partnership gives Live Nation a stake of future music and music-related business she generates, including touring, merchandising and albums. Madonna’s last tour was her 2006 “Confessions.”
Baby-Name Experts Weigh In On Gwen Stefani’s Son ‘Zuma’
EXPERT: Whitney Walker, co-author with Eric Reyes of “The Perfect Baby Name” and consultant through ThePerfectBabyName.com.
SPECIALTY: Phonetics and rhythm — how names sound and flow together.
IMPRESSIONS: “Zuma Nesta Rock sounds like a water park ride or a new energy drink. Zuma is unusual and rather appealing — for a girl. It’s said to be taken from Zuma Beach in Malibu, and while place names are great, they have to fit the gender of the baby. But with the `A’ ending and the popular `Z’ beginning (as in Zoe, Zelda, Zora), Zuma just sounds too feminine. So does Nesta (supposedly Bob Marley’s real name), and it’s not a good idea to pair two `a’ endings as first and middle names — too cutesy.”
“Rock is probably thrown in there just to point to the parents’ careers, and it does help to add some masculinity. Add Rossdale and you’ve got four names with the “S/Z” sound in common to tie them together, but they don’t flow rhythmically. Finally, it’s always a good idea to name siblings in the same genre, but Zuma and Kingston aren’t.”

EXPERT: Maryanna Korwitts, author of “Name Power 101” and founder of BabyNamingCentral.com.
SPECIALTY: The holistic approach, from sounds and meanings to the impact of names, possible nicknames — even initials — on personality traits.
IMPRESSIONS: “This celeb couple certainly succeeded in choosing an unusual name. And they succeeded in making an even stronger statement about their fondness for Jamaica. Kingston is named after Jamaica’s capital, and Nesta was Jamaican singer Bob Marley’s given first name.”
“When it comes to historical naming tradition, both Zuma and Nesta are most frequently considered girls’ names. … As this child grows up, he will likely encounter some name-induced gender identity issues.
“As for the subliminal effect, the first name Zuma will encourage a career in acting or music, so this baby could find himself following in a parent’s footsteps with ease. But he is also likely to flounder when it comes to communication and relationship compatibility because he carries a name that will establish a highly private nature.”
“It seems the Rossdales scarified quality for quirkiness … and it’s a good bet little Zuma may be investigating a name change at some point down the road!”
GRADE: C-
EXPERT: Jennifer Moss, author of “The One-in-a-Million Baby Name Book” and founder of Babynames.com.
SPECIALTY: Practicality. Moss focuses on the research process, looking for influences such as family history and life experiences.
IMPRESSIONS: “First of all, Zuma? Zuma is a diminutive of the Aztec name Montezuma — not sure the Rossdales realize that. … But it’s also associated with the Zuma Beach (in Los Angeles), which is really beautiful. … A lot of people are using `place’ names now, and I think they used it after the beach, most likely.”
“I would recommend that the boy grow up using the name Rock Rossdale because that’s probably the only normal name in there. … He’s gonna grow up in the creative community, so I don’t think he’ll get picked on too much. But there’s only one percent of people (surveyed on Babynames.com) that said they loved it. And 50 percent said they hated it. That’s a lot.”
“Kingston seems so upper class and just sophisticated, that everybody was expecting another name that went along with it.”

Lauren Conrad’s Fashion Line Dropped By Kitson
Kitson attempted to sell more of her clothes with a buy one, get one free offer, but shoppers were apparently not enticed with the idea of double dose of LC couture. The unsold items were donated to Kathleen’s Closet, an organization that provides prom dresses for girls who can’t afford them and a women’s shelter. The remaining unsold Conrad duds were shipped to storage. As for LC’s rival, Heidi Montag, she told Access Hollywood’s Dish of Salt, Laura Saltman last month, her line for Anchor Blue was doing well. “It’s the number one selling clothing line so it’s going well,” Heidi told Laura. “[It’s sold in] Kitson and all the Anchor Blue stores.”
Kate Winslet Talks Doing Love Scenes With Leonardo DiCaprio In Front Of Husband
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - It was more than a little awkward for Kate Winslet to film sex scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio in front of husband Sam Mendes, who directed the stars in the upcoming drama “Revolutionary Road.”“I just kept saying, `This is too … weird,”’ Winslet tells Entertainment Weekly magazine. “And Leo was like, `Oh, get over it.’ And I’m going, `Yeah, a little reminder: You’re my best friend. He’s my husband. This is a bit weird.”’Mendes, who directed “American Beauty” and “Road to Perdition,” says, “I will admit it was quite bizarre to direct my wife in how to make love. But it’s difficult whether you’re married to a person or not.”
It’s been 11 years since Winslet and DiCaprio co-starred in the Oscar-winning blockbuster “Titanic,” and Winslet says a spark remains between them.“I hadn’t realized how much my chemistry with him since `Titanic’ would still stick,” says the 32-year-old actress. “It’s great to discover we can just slip right into it, like muscle memory.”They play suburban couple Frank and April Wheeler in “Revolutionary Road,” based on Richard Yates’ 1961 novel. It is slated for release in December, just in time for Oscar consideration.
“We knew that if we were going to do something again, it had to be something big and emotional,” Winslet says. “`Revolutionary Road’ is so painful and beautiful to read, simply because of the brutality of the honesty that Frank and April end up experiencing together.”Winslet was eager to bring DiCaprio on board, and set up a sneaky way to do it: She arranged a meeting with the 33-year-old actor in March 2007, but sent Mendes in her place.“Leo and I have such a history together and I couldn’t imagine not being able to apply that to this story and these characters,” she says. “So I played this very clever cat-and-mouse game to get my husband and then my best friend involved.”
Kim Kardashian: Heading To ‘Dancing With The Stars’
If she does head to the show, whose cast will be revealed August 25, Kim may not be the most graceful woman on the dance floor. However, she may get some tips tomorrow, when she joins a famous pop act known for their fancy footwork. “I’m really clumsy and… I don’t know. I’m dancing with the Pussycat Dolls Friday, so that’s my first step,” she paused, “of trying to dance.”When asked who she thought were the best professional dancers from the program, Kim gave her biggest props to the cast’s women. “I think the girls are sexy – Cheryl [Burke], Edyta [Sliwinska], Karina [Smirnoff] – I think they’re all sexy,” she noted.
Other celebrities rumored to be joining “Dancing’s” Season 7 include singer Toni Braxton, country star Jewel and her husband, rodeo champ Ty Murray, former Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, ex-*N Sync member Lance Bass, “Brady Bunch” mom Florence Henderson, TV and film star Tom Selleck and former TV “Batman” star, Adam West.
Officer Jonas Ready To Arrest The Pop Charts
NEW YORK, New York - Joe Jonas showed off his retro fashion sense in New York City on Wednesday, where he was dressed as a NYPD officer during the filming of the band of brothers’ as-yet-untitled 3-D movie.
It’s been a busy week for the Jonas Brothers, who have also made NYC stops at MTV’s “Total Request Live” and played a handful of concerts in support of the Tuesday release of their latest album, “A Little Bit Longer.” Billboard reported on Wednesday that the band is on track to earn its first number one album with the release, which is projected to sell between 675,000 and 725,000 albums. The album’s title track debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week with 131,000 downloads – marking the fourth time in seven weeks that the Jonas Brothers have scored the chart’s top debut of the week.
‘Harry Potter’ Cast Talks On- And Off-Set Romances
In fact, Radcliffe, 19, said he is only coming to terms with the dating process. “I never had any idea how to talk to girls until a year or so ago,” Daniel said. “I still come out with trivial crap when I’m flirting, but I like to think I’m doing it in a faintly endearing way.” And it’s not just “Potter’s” Radcliffe who is experimenting with relationships. On screen, while the sixth installment of the “Potter” franchise, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” features flashbacks with the origin of the villainous Voldemort, it finds Ron and Hermione experimenting with their romantic sides. The film features a love triangle between Ron (Rupert Grint), Hermione (Emma Watson) and newcomer Lavender Brown (Jessie Cave, in her film debut) in which Ron shares a smooch with Brown to make Hermione jealous. Ron and Hermione won’t get together until “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows,” the two-film final installment of the franchise, which is due out in 2010 and 2011. Though fans may be waiting with bated breath, Rupert, for one, isn’t looking forward to it. “The whole kiss between Ron and Hermione will be quite uncomfortable,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Emma’s like a sister to me. It’s going to be like, really, really weird.” But Hermione and Ron won’t be the only actors steaming up the screen. The final film will also feature a scene of Potter, sans clothing.
“At first I thought I had pants on. Apparently not,” Daniel said. Having doffed his trousers onstage for the London West End version of “Equus,” which is heading to Broadway shortly, doing so on screen shouldn’t be much trouble. “It’s all old hat now, really,” he said. It’ll be even older by the time the films are released – according to Deadline Hollywood Daily, Warner Brothers has pushed “Half-Blood Prince” back to July 17, 2009, from its announced November 21, 2008 release date.
